V IVIAN

There is nothing like waking up in the arms of the man you love. The feeling flows through me, filling my heart with warmth.

Head sunk into the pillow, I crack my eyes open and look out the window. All the way to the lake, the morning drips with light over the hoar-covered grass. A soft mist hovers over the water, filtering the glow of the hazy sun.

His soft breaths roll rhythmically into my hair, his arms draped around my body, his skin pressed against my skin, his blood running with my blood, our hearts so close to each other.

He’s still asleep.

Wrapped in his arms, and shielded by his body, I let my gaze rove over the scenery outside.

Love never felt better, I muse.

His cell alarm goes off, his hand briefly peeling away from me, taping the screen.

He grunts. I smile.

“Why do you have to leave so early?”

“Don’t tempt me,” he says with a hoarse voice, a grin threading through his voice. “I have to be in London by noon.”

“Hmmm.”

“What’s that for?”

“Nothing,” I say, smiling, yet pulling away from him.

He grabs me and holds me still.

I roll to my side to face him.

He flips an eye open.

“I’ll be back tonight.”

“Okay,” I say curtly.

“What is it, Vivian?”

“I want to talk to you about something.”

“Talk,” he says.

I shake my head.

“No, no. Not now. It’s no rush.”

“Give me three words.”

“It’s more than three words.”

He grins, his eyes closed.

“Spill it for fuck’s sake.”

“I want to join the startup incubator,” I say as concisely as I can.

He cracks both eyes open. This time for good.

His eyebrows lift slowly, a soft smile tilting his lips.

“Okay,” he mutters.

“Okay, yes? Or okay, it’s a good idea?”

He bites his lip and pushes back another grin.

“Both.”

My lips part in surprise.

“You mean, yes?”

He nods, amused by my expression.

“Yes. That’s what I mean,” he says mellowly.

“Do you really think I can do it?” I ask, my voice quivering with emotion.

“I think you can do anything you put your mind to, Vivian Mason.”

“You’re kissing my ass right now.”

He breathes out a soft chuckle.

“I’d love to.”

“Oh! Come on. I want to know if you thing that I can really do it.”

“Yes, you can, little pest. You’re good. I reviewed your first performance evaluation,” he says, his last words serious.

“But I don’t feel ready,” I say, filled with doubt.

“No one is ready when they start. I wasn’t. Nor was Shade.”

A few moments of silence slip away before I wind my arms around his neck and crash onto him, my bare chest pressing against his torso, my legs tangling with his. An instant rush goes through my blood, his body heating up quickly.

We’re one split second from getting locked in a kiss when his phone alarm goes off again.

He snatches it from the nightstand and turns it off for good.

His eyes fly back to me.

“I have to leave right now, but I expect you to be waiting for me right here, tonight,” he says jokingly, yet using a commanding voice.

“Are we moving here for good?”

“We might.”

“So the driver.
